Tri-party meeting aims to attract young talent into trades sector
CAN recently organised and attended a tri-party meeting with Gateshead Council and Gateshead College to explore how the Council, College and regional contractors (represented by CAN) can work together to attract more young local people into the construction trades and discuss skills and training generally.
Gateshead Council is a client for regional companies and also a direct employer of trades, while Gateshead College has an excellent skills academy for construction.
The meeting addressed where the shortages in the trades are, current ways young people enter the trades, barriers to trade apprentices and how we can all work together in a tangible, measurable way.
Skills and training is one of the three pillars of CAN and we are keen to work in collaboration with Local Authorities and further education organisations for the benefit of young people in the region.
