Dialogue must drive improved procurement processes

Recent meetings with built environment professionals have indicated once again the vital role of our Intelligent Procurement Policy in the North East.
Conversations with contractors, architects and other industry professionals have highlighted that there are points for continued discussion relating to private and public sector procurement practices.

It could not be more timely then to remind our region’s clients and professionals of smarter ways of working and some of the values that Construction Alliance North East lobbies to protect on behalf of regional contractors.
These include:
·      Ensure better visibility of the opportunities and pipelines of work in the North East and make them more accessible to regional SMEs
·      Give procurement organisations alternative options to single-sourced frameworks to facilitate more use of local contractors by removing barriers to local firms
·      Work with procuring bodies to identify their challenges

CAN fully appreciates the procurement rules governing public procurement and welcomes the collaborative approach adopted by organisations such as NEPO and will we continue support good practice adopted.
